Welcome
Welcome to East Mountain Maker Space, a new community resource aiming to bring a collaborative maker space to the East Mountains outside of Albuquerque, NM.
What is a Maker Space?
A maker space is a community resource that provides equipment, resources, and expertise to creative folks who want to build or make things. There are many different flavors of maker spaces that serve different needs and target audiences. Our Shops page outlines the types of equipment we have in mind, but we’re here to serve your needs—please let us know what equipment you’d like to use by filling out our Survey at the bottom of the page.
Who uses a Maker Space?
EMMS is aiming to serve three target populations:
DIY’ers
We want to reach out to Do-It-Yourself (DIY) folks who need equipment to complete their projects, but don’t want to invest in a full suite, don’t have space, or don’t want to maintain everything. Our Shops will provide complete sets of equipment in many different creative areas.
Having equipment is nice and all, but we also want to provide expertise to new DIY’ers who need some help learning how to get started on making their ideas come to fruition. Our Classes will teach folks the basics on how to use equipment safely and effectively, and then go beyond in our Tips and Tricks Classes and guided Project Classes. We’ll also offer Personalized Classes if you want expert one-on-one time.
Veterans
We are veteran founded, owned, and operated, and want to support our fellow veteran community.
EMMS aims to introduce veterans to new trades through our Classes, acting as an entry point to more in-depth trade programs and certifications.
We also aim to assist veterans with their own businesses, by providing the equipment and resources in our Shops that are needed to fulfill their business needs, such as sign-making and prototype manufacturing.
Lastly, we want EMMS to be a safe and welcoming hub for veterans to gather at, to network with other creative folks from the veteran community.
Students/Youth
We seek to foster the natural creativity in our youth, as well as prepare them for the next stage of their lives.
EMMS want to partner with STEM/STEAM clubs at local schools, to provide equipment and space so students can enrich their hands-on learning. If you’re a teacher or club leader, Contact Us to discuss opportunities for partnership.
Moving beyond hobbies, we’re also looking to introduce students to new trades skills and to provide them with experience that will make them more marketable in the workforce.
What’s next for EMMS?
We are currently in the market research phase of starting our business, and we want to hear what you think about this idea. Please take a look through our website to get a feel for our plans, and then fill out our Survey at the bottom of the page to tell us what you think. If you have more thoughts to share or would like to partner with us, Contact Us—we’d love to chat!
